Senator Schumer Announces New Company in Rouses Point
February 18, 2009 – Plattsburgh, NYSenator Charles Schumer, D-NY, today announced the formation of a new generic pharmaceutical company that promises to bring new business to the pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Rouses Point.
The new company, Rouses Point Pharmaceuticals, LLC, is a creation of executives Joseph Krivulka and Leonard Mazur, the same entrepreneurs who founded Akrimax Pharmaceuticals and purchased the Rouses Point facility last year from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.
“Akrimax’s formation of Rouses Point Pharmaceuticals is a win-win because it will preserve and create jobs in the North Country while bringing lower cost generic drugs to the marketplace,” Sen. Schumer said. “I am committed to giving this company the support it needs to continue to grow. To that end, I have worked to ensure that Akrimax has access to banks and lenders so that they can continue plans to grow in Rouses Point.”
Rouses Point Pharmaceuticals markets generic products nationally to chain, wholesale and hospital customers. The company’s first product, Propranolol-ER, is a non-selective beta blocker mainly used in the treatment of hypertension.
The company launched the product this week. Akrimax Manufacturing, a division of Akrimax Pharmaceuticals, is the exclusive producer for Rouses Point Pharmaceuticals.
Rouses Point President Ben Maizel said the manufacturing partnership with Akrimax will position the company for rapid growth.
“The Akrimax Manufacturing facility here is staffed with highly skilled workers using state-of-the-art equipment,” Maizel said. “This partnership is a fantastic opportunity for us. This plant forms the foundation we need for Rouses Point Pharmaceuticals to become a key player in the growth segment of generics and small-branded pharmaceutical products.”Maizel said his goal is to produce a full line of solid and semi-solid products, with anticipated growth of more than $100 million within the next three years.
